Getting Here

Nestled deep in the Osa rainforest, getting here is just the start of your Drake Bay jungle experience.  Below are the three main routes, each an adventure in their own right.

By air

Highly recommended.  The fastest most hassle free way to reach us, allowing you to start your vacation as soon as possible.  During your short 50 minute flight from San Jose, see breathtaking views of the coastline, impossible to replicate on the ground.  We’ll drive you the final 10 kilometres, taking in some stunning ocean views along the way.  Contact Sansa airlines for further details of flights to Drake Bay.

By car

Getting here from San Jose the drive is approximately 8hrs.  The vast majority of the journey is on paved roads with the last hour or so taking you off road through the jungle. For adventurous, experienced and confident drivers, a 4WD vehicle and planning your drive so you arrive in Drake Bay before sunset is essential.  Still keen to drive?  Then you’re in for a unique and wonderful driving experience, taking in rivers, mountains and jungle.

By boat

Another unique Drake Bay experience.  From Sierpe, catch a small taxi boat that leaves twice a day.  A one hour trip down the Sierpe river, taking in the mangroves as you go, then into the ocean for an exhilarating journey along the coast before a wet landing in Drake Bay.  What’s a wet landing?  Getting off the boat into the water and wading to the beach!  We’ll meet you at the beach and drive you the final few kilometres.  You may need to schedule an overnight stay in Sierpe if arriving after the last boat leaves for Drake Bay (approx 3.30pm).

Why not turn your journey into an even more wonderful experience? Make every minute of your travelling a unique and wonderful adventure. Arrive or leave Drake Bay in style and take a private mangrove tour en route, with a local guide, expert captain, with food and drink included. A tour that gives fabulous wildlife spotting opportunities. Just let us know and we’ll arrange it all for you.
