But breakfast was already prepared and was waiting for us in the fridge so we didn’t have to go with an empty stomach. They proactively arranged the taxis for us, another thing we didn’t not have to worry about.Joe and Sue are very lovely people with an amazing property and location. In the morning we did activities and in the afternoon we enjoyed the large swimming pool.Also a big shoutout to Ellie, she is the cook who made amazing 3 course dinners every evening for us. Joe and Sue are very attentive and friendly hosts and even made valiant efforts to revive my phone which I got wet. This spot has wonderful views of the surrounds with lovely grounds and birds to enjoy too. The bar prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious and freshly prepared with every effort made to include local produce. Thank you all for the most wonderful stay.Verified 4 days in paradise We spent 4 nights here as part of a 2 week holiday in Costa Rica and can't recommend it highly enough both in terms of the property and Drake Bay as a destination. Drake Bay felt more remote and 'real' than other parts of CR we visited further north on the Pacific coast, the tours we did there were great and the snorkeling tour to Cano Island was the best. The boat journey between Drake Bay and Sierpe was a great way to travel and an adventure in itself. SDL is an amazing place built by Joe and he and his wife Sue are the perfect hosts and their personal touch is a refreshing change from staying hotels. The accommodation is flexible depending on your requirements. We stayed in the Gatehouse Lodge which was perfect for us and so comfortable with everything we could need. The pool and garden are beautiful with visits from toucans every evening. Meals are are served around a communal table so you can chat to other guests. The chef Ellie serves amazing fresh high quality 3 course dinners and tasty breakfasts to set you up for the day. Definitely recommend.Verified Excellent hotel in Drake This small hotel is beautiful.
