We’re Joe and Sue Southern and we own and manage Southern Drake Lodge. We live at the lodge with our dogs Rio and Bob and cat Gala and here’s a little bit of background about us.
We’re both from the north of England in the UK. We’ve travelled the world looking for warmer climes to settle and fell in love with Drake Bay. We packed our bags to build a luxury home and welcoming lodge for adventurous travellers to stay.
Joe
Joe has always been a keen angler and has travelled the world in a continuous search for the next prize catch. He has always kept an eye on a potential place to settle. Having worked in construction all his life he was able to build Southern Drake Lodge himself. He didn’t let a global pandemic stop him.
Sue
Sue has a varied background in hotel, leisure, retail, project and product management. It’s her job to keep things running and look after the guests requirements.
Gala, Bob and Rio are rescue animals. They’re the resident entertainment, often found lounging by the pool at sunset.
Southern Drake Lodge is located between the towns of Drake Bay and Los Planes on Costa Rica’s beautiful Osa Peninsula. It takes advantage of the jungle and ocean views and cool breezes. Howler monkeys will wake you up in the morning. Toucans will remind you it’s gin o’clock. There are daily visits from a variety of birds and animals, including macaws, monkeys (spider, howler and capuchin), coatis, tayras, stunning butterflies and sometimes a visit from a jaguarundi.
As seasoned travellers, we know how precious your vacation time is. We want to ensure you get the most out of your visit.
